11 Sessions a Rad Tech Must Attend at RSNA 2022

The world’s largest medical imaging conference is just around the corner. Are you bewildered about what sessions are unique to your needs as a rad tech? This guide walks you through 11 sessions and events to look forward to at the RSNA 2022 annual meeting.

Table of Contents

The 108th Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) meeting kicks off on Sunday 27th of November and concludes on Thursday 1st of December. It will be held, as usual, at the McCormick Place in Chicago and virtually as well. The meeting will host more than 1000 sessions and events. So, this beckons the question: which of these events should you attend?

Plenary Sessions in RSNA 2022

There are various plenary sessions scheduled during the conference. While these sessions may be important, they can coincide with other interesting ones that cater specifically to rad techs. Our recommendation for you is to focus on the following two plenary sessions.

Start your conference journey by attending the President’s address that will take place on Sunday at 4 PM. While this session may not specifically be addressed to radiologic technologists, the President’s address will be an important introduction to RSNA 2022’s theme: Empowering Patients and Partners in Care.

The next session you shouldn’t miss is “Designing Radiology for Patients, Communities, and the Planet” which will be held on Tuesday. Primarily this session covers the broader effects of radiology and how our actions and day-to-day work affect our patients, community, and the whole world.

Special RSNA 2022 Events

Another highlight of the RSNA 2022 will be its special events. In the first event, explore the latest developments in healthcare policies in the “Medicare and U.S. Healthcare Policy: A National Conversation” session. This one is scheduled for the 29th of November at 1:30 PM.

A second event you should look forward to is the “Fast 5” which will take place at the Arie Crown Theater. This session was initiated back at the RSNA 2017 annual meeting. Five different speakers will be presenting their non-clinical topics in a fast-paced five-minute session. Keep in mind that out of all the topics that were submitted, these speakers were the lucky ones who were chosen for the event. So, make sure to grab this opportunity and learn five new ideas related to empowering patients from the 2022 version of “Fast 5”.

Finally, the last special event for you to consider is called “Building Connections across the Americas. Addressing Access to Radiology”. Get involved in this 4-hour interactive session that focuses on finding solutions for the healthcare access issues in the Americas. Give your take on how to help patients get the proper radiology care that they deserve.

RSNA 2022 Showcases AI

Artificial intelligence is increasingly becoming the center of the medical future. That’s why you will find a full Artificial Intelligence showcase at the RSNA 2022 meeting. We advise you to check the AI Showcase daily to get your fill of AI education and innovation. Go to the AI Theater inside the Showcase and catch a glimpse of the most cutting-edge technologies presented by a variety of top companies. Stay tuned for our AI in radiology article which will be released later this month.

Socialize at RSNA 2022

While all the events and sessions that we covered are educational and research-heavy, RSNA 2022 also introduces three social events to spruce up your experience and lighten your mood. These will include a short run along Lake Michigan, a food and beverage-laden walk around the exhibit hall, and a party at one of Chicago’s elite clubs.

Join the 5k fun run which will take place on Tuesday at 6:30 AM. This mini-marathon, which starts at Avery Field in South Grant Park, will take you along the spectacular shoreline of Lake Michigan. Your effort and contribution will go for a good cause, supporting the RSNA Research & Education Foundation.

If your style calls for a bit less physical intensity and a bit more drinks, the RSNA got you covered with the “Last Call at the Exhibit Halls”. This event will take place on Wednesday from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM as the last day of technical exhibitions.

The last social event of RSNA 2022 will be the after-dark party. This ticketed, open-bar event will take place at a Chicagoan nightclub called TAO. Relax, enjoy your time, and party the night away. Or don’t? However, remember that there is still a full day of sessions left for you to attend. Hopefully – hangover free.

Final Words

The RSNA 2022 annual meeting can be a great opportunity for you to learn new topics, catch up on the latest innovations, and meet influential people in your industry. This is the kind of event that allows you to meet like-minded people, expand your circle of friends, and have an overall enjoyable and rewarding experience.
